How To Calculate The Number Of Bricks In A Building With Mortar

When you’re planning to build or renovate a room, one of the most crucial steps is calculating the number of bricks you’ll need. Accurate brick calculation not only helps in estimating the cost but also ensures that you don’t run short of materials midway through the project. Whether you’re working on a small DIY project or a large construction job, understanding how to calculate the correct number of bricks is essential.

Length of Room (L) = 7m
Width of Room (W) = 5m
Height of Room (H) = 4m
Thickness of Wall (T) = 0.25m
Size of Door = 2.1m x 0.9m
Size of Window = 1.8m x 2.4m
Size of Brick = 19cm x 9cm x 9cm

Length of Long Wall = 7 x 2 = 14m

The volume of Long Wall = L x H x T

= 14 x 4 x 0.25 = 14m3

Deduction of Window = 14 – (1.8 x 2.4 x 0.25) = 12.92 m3

Length of Short Wall = {5 – (0.25 x 2)} x 2 = 9 m

The volume of Short Wall = L x W x T

= 9 x 4 x 0.25 = 9m3

Deduction of Door = 9 – (2.1 x 0.9 x 0.25) = 8.53m3

Total Volume = 12.92 + 8.53 = 21.45m3

Mortar Thickness = 10 mm = 0.01 m

Volume of Brick = L x W x T (With Mortar)

= 0.20 x 0.10 x 0.10 = 0.002m3

Number of Bricks = 21.45/0.002 = 10725 Bricks

Adding the 5% wastage of Bricks = 10725 x 5% = 536.25

Hence,
Total Number of Bricks = 10725 + 536.25 = 11261.25

11262 Bricks
